You can use any path separator in Java, it will work on both Unix and Windows. If you still want to use the system path separator there is the File.separator property which will give you the right one depending on the current system.

How to Load a Java Native/Shared Library (.so)
There are several ways to make it possible for the Java runtime to find and load a native shared library (.so) at runtime. I will list them briefly here, followed by examples with more explanation below.
- The classpath is the file path that the Java runtime environment searches for classes and other resource files. It can be set using either the -classpath option when executing a program or by setting the system CLASSPATH environment variable. As the name suggests, it's simply a file path where the.class files can be found in a JDK package.
- Java.io.File class contains three methods for determining the file path. GetPath: This method returns the abstract pathname as pathname String. GetAbsolutePath: This method returns the absolute path of the file, if File is created with an absolute pathname, this path will be returned.
- Now, my Mac machine allows to create folders and file names containing special characters, while Windows does not. The application where I am having the problem is running on Windows and it needs to read and delete the file created by Mac machine. So, the problem arises when the file path has special characters. - Copy the shared library to one of the paths already listed in java.library.path
- Modify the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable to include the directory where the shared library is located.
- Specify the java.library.path on the command line by using the -D option.
